Erkki on Feb. 10th

Erkki continues to receive various types of chemo-lite - enough to kill the bad cells but keeping Erkki's counts at a safe level.

His vitals are perfect, one nurse said they are better than her own :)
There is talk this morning about sending Erkki home again.

No name yet for the baby!!!!!

Hi Erkki, Tachy

Strong Viking Mama!!! Jen handled every contraction with her breath control and in between with either her usual cheery, excited smile or with her eyes closed (i.e. knocked-out asleep). She even began to feel that the 3 minutes rest in between contractions was a surprisingly long time! – Even after 27 hours!

And then after some rest, she was really ready to show the new baby how much more fun it is outside the womb. So super-midwife, Christine, set us up to support Jen and, with this coordinated effort, Jen pushed the baby out. Actually the baby surfed a big wave into the world to the happy cheers of Dylan, me, Christine, the Obstetric Doctor and a few nurses who, all of a sudden, appeared at the time of birth. Baby squealed and cried as she was placed on Jen’s chest. Dylan cut the cord and then she was quickly handed over (yes, as fast as a football handoff) to be rubbed down and checked over by Pediatric Dr on nearby table. The squealing stopped as soon as she was placed on Jen’s chest once again. I imagined the baby thinking: “ash! Back finally to the temple where I can chill out as I have been doing for 9 months plus 10 days. No? What? I’ve got to have some eye drops put in!! No way, I want to get back to the spa.”

Baby kept her eyes wide open and looking around for two hours after the birth. I was really touched to see the interaction between Dylan and baby and Mom and baby. She would stare at them and listen to their soft words of welcome. Then she started wagging her little tongue, as she looked at them. So at peace, so beautiful.

I am so proud of Jen and Dylan, they prepared well and worked well with staff and made it a wonderful start for the baby. Even the maternity nurse, Chelsea, who was there for the most of the last 10 hours, said that if she was going to have another baby (she had two children), she would want to have a delivery as Jen had!

Love to you all, Gramma Marion
